1. JPJ SIBU’S GAWAI-RAYA 2019 OPS TO FOCUS ON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
SIBU: In conjunction with the twin-festive seasons of Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will be running its enforcement operation from May 29th until June 13th.
According to Sibu JPJ chief Mohamad Faizal David Jemat, 20 enforcement personnel would be on duty during the operation and double their efforts, by focusing on public transportation.
He added, the JPJ personnel would do more than just patrolling the main roads and do an undercover inspection for buses at the main terminals and monitor accident-prone locations.
Mohamad Faizal said the main objective of the enforcement exercise is to ensure safety and also comfort to all road users throughout the festive season.
He further added, stern action will be taken against those who do not comply with the road regulations and laws.
2. HAILSTORM HITS LIMBANG TOWN
MIRI: A rare phenomenon of hailstorm hit Limbang town yesterday afternoon when hailstones the size of pebbles raining down from the sky at around 6.30 pm, followed by strong winds and downpour.
The witnesses who retold the incident said, they were shocked upon hearing the sound of rain which was louder than the usual and was in disbelief when hearing the sound of stones hitting the rooftop.
The hailstorm has induced fear among the locals as well as attracted some to come and pick up the balls of ice on the road.
So far there have been no reports of similar incidents in other areas in the Limbang division except in Limbang town.
3. KLCS TO HOLD ‘I-SHAVE 7.0’ FUNDRAISING EVENT
KUCHING: The Kuching Life Care Society (KLCS) has called on members of the public to come forward and shave in the ‘i-Shave 7.0’ fundraising which is to be held to raise more funds for their Palliative Care Centre project.
Its chairman Hung Sung Huo said, the project has thus far raised RM8 million and needs RM2 million more as the cost of the building as well as medical equipment, electric beds and relevant software is estimated to be around RM10 million.
According to Hung, the fund-raising event will be held this July 21st at the Boulevard from 10 am and the presence of Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii will also be expected.
Kelvin Yii said, he will also be shaving his head for a good cause during the event and personally donate to the charitable organization to encourage the public to have a good heart and donate to KLCS for their noble cause.
Meanwhile, Hung said those who wished to donate to Dr Yii’s ‘i-Shave 7.0’ campaign can do so by donating to KLCS’s Public Bank account at 31-222-088-25 through online transfer before July 21st.
