The embattled Chinese phone-maker, Huawei, seems to be working on a Google Maps alternative after unveiling its potential Android replacement.
According to the state-owned China Daily, Huawei is developing a mapping service called the Map Kit and plans to unveil it in October.
Apparently, it has been designed to use a toll for software developers to create apps based around its mapping capabilities rather than for consumer use.
Russia’s Google equivalent Yandex and Booking.com parent Booking Holdings are partnering with Huawei on the service.
It will be connect to local mapping services, cover 150 countries and regions, and be available in 40 languages. -CNET
