KUCHING: Huawei Malaysia has further strengthen the strategic partnership with Sarawak government by signing a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CENTEXS (Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak) and SMA (Sarawak Multimedia Authority), under the umbrella of the government of Sarawak to continue their commitment to support the State Digital Economy Transformation Agenda, specifically in the domain of Digital Talent development and Technology Innovation.
The MoU Signing was led by the State Secretary of Sarawak, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi bin Abdul Ghani, CEO of CENTEXS Tuan Haji Syeed and GM of SMA Dr. Zaidi Razak together with the Enterprise VP of Huawei Technologies Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Oliver Liu, VP of Huawei Learning services Mr XuChengxin and Miss Linxijiang, Director of Huawei Openlab, witnessed by The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi (Dr.) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak and Li Dafeng, Executive Member of the Supervisory Board, Director of ICT Infrastructure of Managing Board Office.
Speaking at the MoU signing, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg said, Sarawak Digital Economy is critical to stimulate the next phase of economic growth, create job opportunities and overall, improve the living quality of Sarawak people.
He added, it has always been Sarawak’s strategic mission to foster local talents and equipped them with not just the necessary but also latest ICT technology skills and certification that is in high demand to achieve a digital future.
Through the establishment of Centexs Digital Academy, with the current and upcoming digital programmes pioneered by Centexs and Huawei, he said, the government is confident that the future ICT Digital talent supply pipeline is well guaranteed to support Sarawak in realising the vision of Digital Economy as developed and a high-income state by 2030.
As part of the strategic partnership to support Sarawak’s digital economy transformation, Huawei will also focus on bringing the latest ICT technology and knowledge required to support initiatives such as smart city, smart rural connectivity, smart campus, smart agriculture, smart building, smart education, smart tourism, safe city etc.
As stated in the MoU, Huawei will participate as one of the key anchor partner to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) lab to jointly conduct studies, research and development for localized digital smart solution with local universities and partners for these Initiatives through the adoption of 5G and Narrow Band IoT (NBIoT) technologies.

In 2017, Huawei Malaysia and the Government of Sarawak signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to appoint the global ICT leader as its strategic partner in developing the state’s ICT infrastructure for digital transformation.
Last week, the two parties launched the first ever digital training lab in Kuching Sarawak and Southeast Asia to prepare the youth of Sarawak for a digital future.
