1. FREE ELECTRICITY CHARGE EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2020
Free electricity connection charge for connection charge below RM5,000, for low income urban households, to be effective January 1, 2020.
This was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg at the Opening Ceremony of the Cuepecs Office earlier today.
The imposition of free charges, he added, would only affect residential areas and not commercial areas.
2. FLASH FLOODS HIT SEVERAL AREAS IN MIRI
Continuous heavy rain since 8pm on Sunday had led to flash floods in several flood prone areas in the city.
According to Miri Fire and Rescue station chief Law Poh Kiong, among the affected areas were Miri fire station (Bomba Miri), Kampung Lusut, Kampung Lambir and residential areas in Jalan Daro and Jalan Durin in Taman Tunku.
Residents in Jalan Daro and Jalan Durin stayed awake until the rain stop at around 11.30pm.
Many roads were also flooded such as Jalan Sibu in Taman Tunku, Airport road and a few roads in Lutong.
3. LORRY WITH ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES SEIZED IN MIRI
The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) yesterday has seized a lorry and 3,140 litres of alcoholic beverages worth about RM75,000 including tax at Jalan Spring, in Lutong, Miri.
According to JKDM Sarawak director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha, acting on a public tip-off, a team of personnel from the department’s enforcement section detained the lorry which was parked by the roadside at Jalan Spring in Lutong and found the alcoholic beverages of various brands suspected to be contraband being kept inside the lorry with no one around.
Halimah said the lorry was believed to have been used to deliver smuggled goods to the premises in the city.
The lorry and the beverages have been seized and taken to the enforcement section’s store in Miri for further investigation.
