1. FIRE DESTROYS KUCHING COMMUNITY CENTRE SOCIETY RECYCLING BUILDING
KUCHING: Fire nearly consumed the Kuching Community Centre Society (KCCS) along Jalan Upland last night.
The Fire and Rescue team from the Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya fire stations, comprising 15 personnel, arrived at the scene at 10.45pm after being notified by passers-by who spotted the fire at 10.30pm.
About 70 percent of the recycling centre was burned, however, no injuries have been reported.
The team managed to get the fire under control at about 11.30pm. As at air time efforts were underway to determine the cause of the fire.
2. CM TO GRACE STATE-LEVEL GAWAI DAYAK GATHERING
KUCHING: The state-level Gawai Dayak gathering at Imperial Hotel Kuching will be graced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg on June 15th this year.
The invitation was extended to him by its Organising Chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas when he paid a courtesy call on the Chief Minister at his office yesterday.
According to Uggah, the gathering was an annual event of the committee and he shared his hopes that the chief minister can advice the Dayak community on the role that they can play in strengthening ties and unity among all Sarawakians.
Uggah also informed that Abang Johari, too, had been invited to be the guest of honour at another Gawai Dayak function organized by the Kuching Division Dayak Iban community leaders on June 18th.
Elaborating further Uggah said, various problems and issues faced by the community will also be brought up at the function.
3. SAR LAUNCHED TO LOCATE MISSING 63-YEAR-OLD IN BETONG
KUCHING: A Search and Rescue (SAR) operation has been launched by the Fire and Rescue Department to locate a 63-year-old man from Rumah Anji Mupoh Baroh Spak, Betong who went missing since June 6th.
The victim is believed to have left the house via the backdoor and according to one of the victim’s siblings, the victim had difficulty remembering things.
A report was lodged at the Betong police station at around 9.50pm on June 11th after efforts to locate him over the last few days yielded no clues.
The Fire and Rescue team started the SAR at 9.45 this morning and divided themselves into two groups which will focus their search on land and along the river within a 500 metre radius from the longhouse.
