KUALA LUMPUR: FA Cup defending champions, Pahang have cruised into the 2019 FA Cup quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over Premier League side, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM FC) at Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras yesterday.
Both teams fought hard in the match but the score remained 0-0 at half time.
In the second half, Pahang who have a clean record at the Super League so far took control of the match before Ze Love almost netted a goal when his attempt hit the woodwork in the 54th minute.
It was national defender, Matthew Davies who eventually answered Pahang’s prayers when he scored the much-awaited goal with his left foot in the 84th minute.
At the same, 2018 Super League champions and current Super League leader, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) were forced to accept a 0-1 defeat at the hands of PKNS FC at home in Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin.
The Southern Tigers who were forced to play with 10 men as early as the 11th minute when Francisco Insa received a red card for a rough tackle on Muhammad Faizat Mohamad Ghazli, failed to find the equaliser after PKNS FC shot in a goal via former Liberian national player Kpah Shermanin the 48th minute. -Bernama
