ROM: Apple and Samsung giant telecommunications companies fined millions of euros by Italian authorities for mistakes forcing people to buy their latest product.
The Italian Anti-Competition Authority in a statement said Wednesday that the two companies intentionally did not provide operating system updates on their old products.
Apple was fined 10 million Euros or RM48 million while Samsung, 5 million Euro (RM24 million).
According to the statement, Apple was fined higher because the company failed to tell their customers about the iPhone’s battery life.
Samsung notifies the phone owner of Note 4 to install a new version of Google’s Android operating system dedicated to newer model phones, Note 7, but it results in the slowness of the old model system.
Similarly, Apple tells iPhone 6 owners to install operating systems designed for iPhone 7, leading to problems for owners of the old model.
The Italian authorities started an investigation in January following a customer complaint. -Awani
