KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg wants Sarawak based contractors and material suppliers to be given the first priority for water supply projects in Sarawak.
By hiring locals, he said, it will results in positive impacts on the economy via local employment and associated spending at local businesses, which generates economic multiplier effect to the state domestic economy.
A total of 247 projects have been identified to be implemented and completed within next two years and scheduled be completed by the year 2020.
He said that in his opening speech at the 4th Borneo Water and Wastewater Exhibition Conference 2018 in Kuching.
He further said, among the projects will include treatment water plant, distribution network systems, improvement works, pipe replacment, non-revenue water management, modernisation initiatives and Sarawak Alternative Rural Water Supply (SAWAS).
